The Scouting Report
On the road to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, the Canadian men’s national team has to face a familiar obstacle: Honduras. It’s a fitting matchup, considering these two clubs have a rivalry that dates back decades. In fact, when this match was announced in September, it was 30 years to the day since Canada defeated Honduras in St. John’s, Newfoundland, to qualify for the 1986 FIFA World Cup. But the results weren’t as positive when the two clubs met in 2012: Honduras kept Canada from 2014 World Cup contention with impressive victory in San Pedro Sula. Now Canada has revenge on its mind and momentum on its side, having already ousted Dominica and Belize by an aggregate score of 10–1 earlier this year.

Canadian Soccer
Though Canada has traditionally been a hockey country, support for its national soccer teams continues to grow on the heels of the record setting FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 staged from coast-to-coast this past summer. The women’s national team has been exciting fans since coming off of a groundbreaking season in 2012, winning the Country’s first summer Olympic traditional team sport medal since 1936. Following on this success, they were awarded Team of the Year by the Canadian Press and CBC.
