HOT DEAL: Whistler Sliding Centre – $129.99 for a Two-Hour Bobsleigh Ride or Skeleton Ride Experience

Whistler Sliding Centre

Today’s Groupon Vancouver Daily Deal of the Day: Whistler Sliding Centre – $129.99 for a Two-Hour Bobsleigh Ride or Skeleton Ride Experience

Choose Between Two Options:

  • $129.99 for a two-hour bobsleigh ride experience for one ($177.45 value)
  • $129.99 for a two-hour skeleton ride experience for one ($177.45 value)

Both experiences begin with a preliminary 30-minute orientation that familiarizes riders with the equipment and the sport itself and includes a helmet fitting and weigh-in. For the bobsleigh, riders then take a shuttle to a start position halfway up the track and hop inside a sleek bobsleigh with two other passengers and a professional pilot. Once everyone is settled in, the vessel races down the track in a single run that reaches speeds up to 125 km/h. Click here for more information about the bobsleigh experience.

Skeleton sliders walk to a starting position one-third of the way up the track, becoming acquainted with the track corners as they go. Once in position, sliders careen down the track solo in two separate runs, reaching speeds of up to 100 km/h. Click here for more information about the skeleton experience.

This is a limited 4-day only sale that will expire at midnight on Saturday, February 8, 2014.

Whistler Sliding Center, located on the southeastern slope of Blackcomb Peak, is best known as the site of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics’ sledding events. But even though the cameras have left and the athletes have returned to their homes or ice-cube trays, this world-class sports venue stills hums with nimble bobsleighers and lightning-fast skeleton sliders.

Nowadays, the venue opens its 1,450-metre-long track to civilians. Against a backdrop of snow-capped mountains, the adventurous and adrenaline-seeking channel their inner Olympians by shooting down the track at speeds reaching 125 kilometres per hour. One option is the bobsleigh: after an orientation and helmet fitting, visitors can climb inside one of the aerodynamic vessels with a professional pilot and steal down the track at rapid speeds while navigating 10 exhilarating corners. For a solo experience, sledders can opt for the skeleton, which lets them fly head-first down the track at speeds up to 100 kilometres per hour from atop a small steel sled. All public activities are overseen by track crews who assist with everything from coming to a safe stop to matching a gold medal with blue eyeshadow.
