With today’s Groupon: for $25, you get a four-course sushi dinner for two at Oishii Sushi (up to a $53.65 total value). The dinner includes:

  • Two orders of sunomono, salad, or soup (up to a $5.95 value each)
  • One shared appetizer (up to an $8.95 value)
  • One shared five-piece sashimi (up to a $7.95 value)
  • One shared special roll (a $12.95 value)
  • Two sakes or beers (a $5.95 value each)

Oishii Sushi’s expert chefs meld traditional Japanese techniques with West Coast influences to craft a four-course menu of original sashimi and sushi creations. After greeting their dates, blind dates, or invisible dates, guests dig in to first courses such as sunomono, a mix of ebi, kani and tako coated in vinegar-based seasoning. Hands criss-cross to share appetizers, including asari clams drizzled in garlic butter, before eaters split five slices of sashimi such as sockeye salmon and tuna tataki. Heads turn to an open prep area where chefs transform fresh seafood, rice, and fillings into the comestible cylinders that form 12 kinds of special rolls. Servings of imported Japanese beer and hot or cold sake lend their flavours to the Japanese feast. Diners can also advise their servers of any allergy concerns and the different nicknames they would like to be called during each course.

Rich red walls enclose the eatery’s casual interior, where hanging square lights cast their glow over dining pairs. As a member of the Ocean Wise conservation program, Oishii Sushi’s culinary practices are aimed at maintaining the long-term stability of marine ecosystems and their seashell-based economies.
