Great River Fishing supplies rods and tackle on each excursion. Current fishing locations will be discussed with customers upon booking. Each trip is for four people so Groupon customers will be paired with others, or may use four Groupons to put together a private trip. While sturgeon populate the river system year-round, steelhead are more prevalent during January through mid-May and salmon are most likely to use their timeshares during peak season in mid-August through November.
Great River Fishing’s expert staff lead sport-fishing expeditions—with an eye toward local-wildlife conservation—through stretches of the Fraser River. A four-hour fishing expedition escorts adventurer duos in one of the company fleet’s 20 custom-welded river jet boats on a hunt for living-dinosaur white sturgeon. Blending the sport of line fishing with education on the deep denizen’s 100-million-year existence, local habitat, and life cycles, each water-whispering excursion teaches current conservation efforts. Tour participants have the opportunity to tag, measure, and scan, recording each fish’s personal data and credit-card numbers. Instructors will also discuss the prime seasons and proper bait for securing a finshake with the disguised river gods.
A fly-fishing adventure takes rod-wielders spying for salmon on the Fraser River and surrounding tributaries, or for steelhead on the Vedder River. During a four-hour instructional, four packs of pupils receive guidance in the basics of the craft, honing skills to cast in single, double-hand, and piggyback spey-fishing style. Anglers browsing running waters for salmon may have the opportunity to catch each of the five Pacific species. If fishing for steelhead, specialized guides lead their groups to prime fishing spots and equip them with proper fly and tackle.
Experienced spey casters also school boat-bound students on proper knot tying and rigging, water reading, relevant entomology, and stream etiquette. Participants develop fish-safe catch-and-release techniques, learning that ecosystems, like golden Frisbees, only become more valuable once they’re gone. Participants of all experience levels take to the rods and ropes in hands-on instruction, and they may expect to see eagles, bears, otters, and other wildlife.
