With today’s Groupon: for $149, you get a game of golf for two, 100 practice balls, plus $15 to Palmer’s Gallery Bar & Grill at Whistler Golf Club in Whistler (up to a $299 value, including HST). This Groupon is not valid for holiday weekend games.

The first Canadian course designed by golfer Arnold Palmer, Whistler Golf Club’s 6,722 yards present obstacles to novice and experienced golfers alike at the foot of Mount Currie. Players smash moon miniatures down the cedar- and fir-lined fairways of an 18-hole, par 71 course, which retorts with meandering streams, nine lakes, and numerous white sand bunkers. Players begin from one of four potential tee-off spots to the clubhouse’s sounds of classic rock and to the dulcet growls of black-bear commentators. The straight fairway of Cedar Grove calls for steadfast aim, and lack of hovercraft equalizes skirmishes with Singing Cedars’ course-crossing lake. Players engage in new-age ball ballet with dual water and sand hazards of The Gallery. Mount Currie gazes down respectfully at drive disciples from the backdrop of Last Run.

Palmer’s Gallery Bar & Grill sates green-trumping appetites with a full menu and outdoor seating on the cedar-shadowed brick patio. Hungered club hefters catch coconut-crusted prawns with pineapple chutney sauce ($12), and heartier fare struts its stuff on a plate of tartar-armed fish ‘n’ chips dipped in Stanley Park Amber Ale ($17) or of chicken cordon bleu with prosciutto and melted gruyere ($20). Guests retire to the hardwood bar for a Whistler Brewing feature draft ($5.50) or appease golfing gods with a lemonade-tea and Skyy vodka salute in a Hard Arnie double ($8).

Whistler Golf Club’s rates fluctuate throughout the time of day and seasons, with additional discounts for residents of British Columbia; plan ahead to make sure you’re redeeming your Groupon at the most opportune time.
