The Company
Le Gavroche

1616 Alberni St., Vancouver, British Columbia

Within a refurbished two-storey Victorian home, Le Gavroche has been serving famished foodies forkfuls of upscale French fare since 1979, and a trip to the romantic restaurant promises a fine meal in an elegant environment. Decadent appetizers include a plate of escargot with garlic, shallots, and a Yukon-gold potato crust ($15) and hazelnut-crusted sweetbreads with wild mushroom and Bordelaise ($15). For a full-sized meal, marinate your mouth with the mustard-crusted rack of lamb, served alongside mint gnocchi and rosemary garlic jus ($39), or dare a dour date to lighten up by ordering the shrimp and scallops, dramatically flambéed tableside with brandy ($30). Menu items are listed with suggested wine pairings to complement the subtle flavours and colours of each dish, and the eatery is home to a massive, 3,500-bottle-strong cellar of wines from around the globe, which should impress oenophiles and beverage archeologists.

Le Gavroche is an intimate eatery, and its small dining rooms are nestled cozily within an elegantly outfitted atmosphere complete with a fireplace and an upstairs terrace that offers romantic coastal mountain views. As such, it is an ideal setting in which to offer a proposal of marriage, common-law partnership, or co-cat ownership.

This deal is not valid for tasting menus.
