After her husband dies of leukemia, Annie and her best friend Chris resolve to do some good for the hospital which tended to him. They set their sights on raising funds for a new settee for the waiting room, and the only question is how. Inspiration strikes: along with four fellow recruits, the women decide to pose in the nude for an alternative calendar. When their efforts become national news, their small town is overtaken by press, and the strength of Annie and Chris’s friendship is put to the test. Based on a true story, Calendar Girls became one of the fastest-selling plays in British history, and was adapted into a 2004 film starting Helen Mirren and Julie Walters.
