$20 for $40 Worth of Artisan Chocolates and Confections

Indulge sweet teeth with a daily menu of baguettes and waffles, drink options including hot chocolates and drinking chocolate, and treats such as gelatos (all $4.50-$6.50). Customers can also take home goods that include a jar of fleur de sel caramels ($12/jar), chocolate hazelnut spread ($12/jar), hot chocolate tins ($16), and truffles, chocolates, and caramels ($1-$1.50).

The founder of Chocolaterie de la Nouvelle France, Anne-Geneviève Poitras, kindled a passion for fine chocolates while studying pastry and bakery at the Institut du Tourisme et d’Hôtellerie du Québec in Montréal. Determined to share the joyous epiphany with others, she opened her shop, which has earned a spot on Vancouver Magazine’s Best Things to Eat and Drink list and ranked in Westender’s 50 Favourite Things to Eat & Drink in Vancouver in 2009.

In her shop, fragrant, sumptuous ingredients perfume handmade chocolates with curious bouquets of flavour bursting with lavender, orange blossoms, and fleur de sel. The house chefs seek out French single-origin or plantation chocolates, made from the cocoa beans of a single country, lending each variety a distinctive character. No additives, preservatives, or artificial ingredients dilute the taste of the confections.
