Rimrock Cafe
2117 Whistler Rd., Whistler, British Columbia

Today’s deal: for $25, you get $50 worth of fine fare and drinks at Rimrock Café in Whistler. This deal is good for all items on the a la carte menu.

The Rimrock Café is powered by the palate-pleasing prowess of chef and owner Rolf Gunther, whose transcontinental training informs a menu rich with fresh seafood and tender game. Embark on epicurean escapades with the chilled prawn cocktail, accented with accompaniments of avocado, tomato salsa and horseradish crème fraiche, or begin with a sautéed wild mushroom salad that wears a diaphanous gown of sesame vinaigrette upon its leafy luxuriance (all first course options are $13). Second course options (all $18) include the buffalo mozzarella, served with heirloom tomatoes, basil and olives, reminding diners why the delicate cheese was hunted nearly to extinction, while the papardelle pasta, emblazoned with a light lobster, goat cheese and cherry tomato sauce, carries a power-to-weight ratio that’s the envy of heavyweight boxers and competitive light bulbs. For the main course ($34), diners can choose the five-ounce filet mignon, or stray from the beaten path with the porcini mushroom encrusted caribou (add $12), chaperoned by a tongue-tingling mélange of truffle butter, spatzle, and porcini cream.

Rimrock’s overflowing trophy case includes a citation from Wine Spectator, and their climate-controlled cellars, home to more than 320 labels, affirm the primacy of their selection. The soft caramel light of two fireplaces bounces across lustrous tables of oak, suffusing the establishment with a mountain lodge glow that’s both the crux of comfort and the essence of elegance, like a onesie stitched from rose petals. Today’s deal allows you to redeem one Groupon for every two people at the table, making it a perfect escape for double dates or barbershop quartets.

Reviews
Frommer’s very highly recommends Rimrock Café and Oyster Bar, and Zagat rated the food extraordinary to perfection. Gayot gave the restaurant a good rating, and 91% of Urbanspooners recommend it.

McDonald’s: Buy a $10/$20 Gift Card, Get a Free Pop & Wrap / Big Mac (Until Dec 26)

I ate at the McDonald’s by my house this weekend and they have a pretty sweet Gift Card promotion right now until December 26, 2010.

If you buy a $10 McDonalds Gift Card, you’ll get a coupon for a Free Pop and Sandwich Wrap.

If you buy a $20 McDonalds Gift Card, you’ll get a coupon for a Free Pop and Big Mac.

Since I was going to order 3 combo’s (not all for me), I bought the $20 Gift Card, then used the free coupon right away and got a free pop and Big Mac! It ended up saving me around $5-7. With the way that the gift card promotion is structured, you would be silly to not buy the gift card the next time you eat at McDonalds. Apparently, the promotion is avaiable at all McDonald’s Restaurants in BC, AB, SK and MB.

I can’t seem to find an image about it on the internet or anything about it on McDonald’s website, but there’s a long discussion about it on RedFlagDeals.
