Jumpers can hurl themselves headfirst from a bridge suspended 160 feet above the glacier-fed Cheakamus River, attached by the ankles to a slender elastic lifeline or by a chest harness that keeps them upright for exhilarating views of dense woodland and basalt-column cliffs. Different cords can make the rebound faster and higher or slower and softer, depending on the jumper’s taste. Participants can also make the death-defying drop attached to another person, in a wheelchair, or playing a slide trombone. After free-fallers have been winched back up to the bridge, they can stroll over to the registration hut to peruse action shots of their jump snapped by pros from Coast Mountain Photography and, if they choose, take home a CD of 15–20 images (for an additional fee) along with their complimentary Whistler Bungee tee.
