The Scouting Report
When the Giants start the 2015–16 regular season on September 25, the team will put yet another crop of top young prospects on the ice. The starting rotation includes forward Tyler Benson, who spent part of his offseason as alternate captain for the Canadian National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team, as well as defenseman Ryley McKinstrey, who attended the prestigious Hockey Canada Camp. This year, fans can look for a special patch on the players’ sweaters commemorating the team’s 15th anniversary, meaning it’s been around since hockey still used live octopi as pucks. With this Groupon, fans can help the team start off right by cheering the Giants on at their first seven home games, a stretch that includes a matchup with the defending Western Conference champions on September 27.

Vancouver Giants
For an idea of the type of talent that the Vancouver Giants put on the ice each season, look at the team’s alumni: since the major junior–level team began in 2001, dozens of former Giants have made it onto NHL rosters. At Pacific Coliseum, located on the Pacific National Exhibition grounds, fans have the chance to see the current batch of up-and-comers take on foes from across the Western Hockey League, itself a part of the 60-team developmental Canadian Hockey League. The excitement isn’t only in watching individuals blossom into full-fledged hockey stars or skate-wielding sushi chefs, however—the Giants also have a long history of success as a team. In fact, Vancouver brought home the MasterCard Memorial Cup Championship in 2007, part of a run that saw the squad finish 1st in the BC Division five years in a row.
